Paul Borrud the current boss of Facebook Australia and New Zealand has resigned from the top spot to pursue personal interests and spend more time with his young family.
American born Borrud, who is now an Australian citizen, was a part of the early US executive team that was hired by Mark Zuckerberg. Borrud has decided to remain in Australia with his family, and Facebook has already begun the search to find his replacement.
My question is: How does one decide to resign from one of the powerful positions in the world? And who will be the man or woman to fill his shoes?! Resigning from any job is tough, but can you imagine resigning to Mark Zuckerberg?
“Yeah Mark, I know, I know…I’m practically a demigod – half man, half internet god. I just want to hang out with the fam a bit more.”
And can you imagine the decision process involved in applying for this role?
You’re walking down the street and bump into an old friend…
“Hey Jim. How are you?”
“Great Jane, thanks for asking! What’s been happening? How’s work?”
“Funny you say that Jim, I’m actually about to apply for something new, but it’s a big gig so if I land it I’ll be pretty excited!”
“Oh wow! What’s the position?”
“Head of Facebook Australia and New Zealand. If I get it, I’ll be one of the most influential people in the world, so it’s lucky you know me because if you ever need a favour… I’ll hook you up Jim. Better be careful what you Direct Message though, because I’m sure I’ll have your password at my fingertips.’ (Jane winks)
Clearly the conversation would never play out like this, and the new ‘ruler’ would never speak in this fashion but it’s getting late in the week and we all need an injection of humour.
Who would you like to see come into the top job at Facebook Australia/New Zealand?
It’s a shame Borrud didn’t announce it earlier, because I swear there’s an opportunity for a reality TV show like The Apprentice…
